The CPR-Push-a-thon gives everyone a small introduction to the concept of CPR and how to do it. The Australian Resuscitation Council says that "Any attempt at resuscitation is better than no attempt" - so knowing the basics, is better than knowing nothing at all.

Teams can be schools, classes, workplaces, friends, neighbourhoods - it doesn't matter. It takes a community to save a life, so see how many people you can get on your team, and how long you can push for!
Register as an individual, so you can join your team. For schools, the school can create the "Team" page, and class teachers can then create profile pages so that classes can join the Team - but....
DO NOT INCLUDE PHOTOS OR PERSONAL INFORMATION OF CHILDREN ANYWHERE IN PROFILES.
For workplaces, start up a TEAM page for your office, OR create numerous TEAM pages if you have lots of people who want to compete to see who can go the longest!
Share your Team or Profile page with your family and friends - let them know that you're taking part in the challenge so that you can learn more about CPR, and raise funds to help Heart of the Nation.
Heart of the Nation carries out great work raising awareness about Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) and the Chain of Survival.
All you need is a pillow or a cushion - no need for any fancy equipment!

Choose a goal that you feel comfortable with and get PUSHING!
If you choose to push for 2 minutes, and you are on a team with 3 other people who also elect to push for 2 minutes, that's a total of 8 MINUTES of pushing from your team alone!
If you choose to push for 4 minutes, that means you will have to do 2 x 2 minute cycles. If it just you and one other person on your team, that means you would each complete 4 minutes of pushing, resulting in 8 MINUTES of pushing! If there are more people on your team, then the minutes multiply!
Choosing to push for 8 minutes means that you will be pushing for a total of 4 cycles of 2 minutes. If your team consists of just you and two others, that would mean that you each get 4 "turns" at pushing, resulting in a total of 24 MINUTES! Outstanding!
Heart of the Nation is an initiative of a registered Australian charity, founded by Greg Page, the original Yellow Wiggle, who survived a Sudden Cardiac Arrest because of bystander CPR, and the fact that there was an AED available to shock his heart.
Heart of the Nation's initiatives are all aimed at increasing awareness about Sudden Cardiac Arrest and the Chain of Survival, with a particular emphasis on creating greater awareness in the community about the location of AED's (defibrillators).
The work we undertake includes:
A national register of AED locations;
Making AEDs more visible with bright, high-vis signage;
A smartphone app to show the location of AEDs and connect responders to cardiac arrest events;
CPR and AED Information and awareness sessions;
Government advocacy;
and much, much more!
Learn more about CPR and AED use with a course provided by Heart of the Nation under the auspices of Allens Training.
It's great that you know a little bit about CPR - it is better than knowing nothing. But being able to do high-quality CPR can not only save the life of someone who has had a Sudden Cardiac Arrest, but it can make a drastic difference to the quality of life when they do survive.
